Chance Hall was a starting right tackle heading into the 2016 season for the Tennessee Volunteers before hurting his knee. Hall underwent a successful surgery yesterday morning according to knoxnews.com.

Since then, the offensive line has had some shuffling around to do, as the team’s former starting center, Coleman Thomas, is now getting reps at right tackle since Hall’s injury. According to Grant Ramey of the Knoxville News Sentinel, head coach Butch Jones said Hall is supposed to miss four-to-six weeks.

Thomas, who was a 12-game starter at center last season for the Volunteers, is entering his junior season. Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike DeBord said Thomas will be competing with redshirt freshman Drew Richmond and redshirt junior Brett Kendrick for the spot.

“We’ll work Coleman Thomas a little bit at tackle,” said DeBord in Ramey’s article. “which he’s done in camp already in individual drills.”

Thomas isn’t unfamiliar with the right tackle position, especially at Tennessee, as he made his debut with the Volunteers at that position in 2014.

“He’ll be a guy that we work there as the third tackle,” DeBord said of Thomas, who is still working at center.

Richmond, who is a former four-star recruit in 2014, seems to be ahead in the right tackle race according to Ramey.

“Drew has really had a really good mindset in this whole training camp,” DeBord said. “All he wants to do is get better every practice. He asks questions all the time. He has, again, continued to get better as a football player.”

The offensive line spots will be more conclusive when the Volunteers open up its 2016 season at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 against Appalachian State at home.
