Former SEC coaches Phillip Fulmer and Steve Spurrier served as guest pickers on ESPN College GameDay in Knoxville, hours before the Florida-Tennessee matchup Saturday.

During their appearance, host Rece Davis asked Spurrier about the best verbal jab directed at the Vols during his tenure at Florida. The recently retired coach refused to take the bait, but Fulmer, who was Tennessee’s head coach from 1992-2008, noted his best comeback to one of the Head Ball Coach’s famous one-liners.

“I said I think he’s hitting from the ladies tee,” Fulmer said, which received huge laughter from the College GameDay hosts.

Spurrier also revealed the irony in his infamous “can’t spell Citrus Bowl without U-T” line.

“We went to the Citrus Bowl that year,” Spurrier said. “That one backfired on me.”

Unsurprisingly, Fulmer picked the Vols to end their 11-year losing streak while Spurrier selected the Gators to continue their winning ways.
