5 Charleston Southern players Vanderbilt fans need to know
The Vanderbilt Commodores (1-5) will host Charleston Southern (5-0) in Nashville this weekend. The Commodores look to snap a three-game losing streak. This marks the first non-FCS meeting for the Buccaneers this season.
Here’s five Charleston Southern players Vanderbilt fans need to know for Saturday’s game.
1. QB Austin Brown- Austin Brown enters Saturday’s game with 859 yards and eight touchdowns on 56-of-87 passing. The junior also has 123 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 38 attempts. Brown will face a Vanderbilt secondary that’s forced two interceptions this season.
2. RB Christian Reyes- Christian Reyes is the leading rusher in Charleston Southern’s triple option offense. The senior has 350 yards and four touchdowns on 77 carries. He will face a 3-4 defense that plans to use its same structure on Saturday.
3. LB Aaron Brown- Aaron Brown leads Charleston Southern with 42 total tackles. The junior is averaging 8.4 tackles per game and has four for loss. He will look to counter Vanderbilt’s most consistent player, tailback Ralph Webb, on Saturday.
4. DB Troy McGowens- Troy McGowens leads Charleston Souther with two interceptions. He also has a team-best seven pass breakups. On Saturday, McGowens will look to add to his totals facing a Vanderbilt offense that has given up 10 interceptions through six games.
5. KR/PR Darius Hammond- Darius Hammond is averaging 101.8 all-purpose yards per game. Through five games, Hammond has a team-best 509 total yards, including 351 on kick returns, 115 on punt returns and 43 on rushing attempts.
