What’s the temperature like in Nashville, Tenn.? Here’s who’s hot or cold for the Vanderbilt Commdores.

RED HOT

On Saturday, Johnny McCrary became the fourth quarterback to start a game for Vanderbilt this season. The redshirt freshman threw for 196 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 17-of-31 passing, all while facing one of the SEC’s top pass rush units. Despite former starter Patton Robinette being medically cleared to play for the first time in over a month, McCrary has an opportunity to claim the starting role for the remainder of the season.

WARM

Nigel Bowden enjoyed another stellar performance on Saturday. The redshirt freshman recorded a team-best 11 tackles, including six solo. Bowden is tied for fourth in the SEC with 65 total tackles and is averaging 8.13 per game.

COOLING OFF

Ralph Webb remains on pace to break Vanderbilt’s freshman rushing record by season’s end. However, it will become a more difficult task should he continue to have subpar performances. Webb rushed for 34 yards on 16 carries in Saturday’s loss.

Despite head coach Derek Mason promising Webb would be a more vital part of the Commodores offense late in games, the tailback saw zero carries in the fourth quarter.

SUBZERO

Vanderbilt’s rushing defense allowed 244 yards and a touchdown on 46 carries. Missouri combined for 5.3 yards per attempt, with Marcus Murphy leading with 93 net yards. Russell Hansbrough added 87 yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Maty Mauk recorded 58 yards on seven attempts.

The Commodores also struggled to stop wide receiver Bud Sasser. Sasser finished with 74 yards and two touchdowns on five receptions, accounting for both of the Tigers final two scores.
