SEC Network analyst and former Florida wide receiver Chris Doering made the case for the SEC East’s big three teams to win the division in 2016.

The preseason favorite is obviously the Tennessee Volunteers, but no one is counting out Florida and Georgia as perennial powers.

Doering explained to SEC Now host Peter Burns what it will take for each of the three to win the division, and he dropped in his prediction at the end.

Florida wins the SEC East if… “They get great play out of QB Luke Del Rio.”

Doering went on to explain that had Del Rio received the NCAA waiver last year to play immediately, he would have beaten out Will Grier and Treon Harris. Doering says Florida has a chance to be dominant along its defensive line, and he expects the wide receivers to have a breakout season.

Georgia wins the SEC East if… “Jacob Eason has to be the guy.”

Doering said Eason brings that deep threat the Bulldogs have to have, and he has to learn quickly. The question mark on offense, according to Doering, is the offensive line. Can they protect Eason? He also wonders how effective Nick Chubb and Sony Michel will be this year coming back from injury.

Tennessee wins the SEC East if… “Joshua Dobbs can be more of a passing threat this year.”

Doering said Dobbs has to get that completion percentage up — still under 60 percent, and notes the Volunteers have lost 11 in a row to the Gators. The Vols have to find a way to complement the great running game. Doering said the Vols have a “mental hurdle” to get over. They are no longer the hunter; they’re the hunted.

Chris Doering’s pick to win the SEC East? The Florida Gators, and he noted he wants to avoid being a homer.

“The Gators are going to be a lot better than people give them credit for,” Doering said.
