KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — In a critical offseason for Butch Jones as he transitions his coaching staff into a new beginning of his five-year old program, UT spring practices came to a close Saturday inside Neyland Stadium.

On a wet day in Knoxville, the annual Orange and White game capped off 15 practices that Team 121 went through as the Vols usher in five new assistant coaches playing new roles throughout the coaching staff this spring.

On top of the coaching staff transition, old faces are being replaced at key positions, with the most glaring position being quarterback.

Junior Quinten Dormady and redshirt freshman Jarrett Guarantano were the top two quarterbacks this spring in a battle to replace the graduated signal-caller Josh Dobbs. On Saturday, Dormady started the game with a drive that resulted in a touchdown. Dormady connected with Jauan Jennings in the end zone and went 5-5 and 51 yards on the drive.

Guarantano then took the field and went 4-5 for 41 yards and took a sack from Darrell Taylor that resulted in a missed 35-yard field goal by Aaron Medley. Guarantano had three rushing attempts for negative eight yards.

Dormady entered for his second drive to close out the first half with another touchdown drive. This time connecting with Eli Wolf for a nine-play, 75-yard drive.

Sheriron Jones then had his chance right before halftime going 0-2 and resulted in a 36-yard punt by Trevor Daniel.

Jones stayed in the game to continue to run the offense and produced a seven-yard run and incomplete passes to Tyler Byrd and Taeler Dowdy.

The Vols then moved into the quarterback challenge before the threat of rain was approaching and the spring game ended early. The final moment of the game featured Dormady successfully reenacting Joshua Dobbs’ Hail Mary throw against Georgia:
