Nick Saban cautions about quarterbacks following spring game

Alabama’s spring game on Saturday afternoon looked more like a Big 12 contest than an SEC game.
QBs Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa were showing off their arms, launching deep pass after deep pass while lighting up the scoreboard.
Hurts — a sophomore — threw for 301 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, while freshman Tagovailoa countered with 313 yards, three touchdowns and a pick.
However, following the high-flying scrimmage, coach Nick Saban stressed to AL.com that fans shouldn’t get overly excited about what they saw on Saturday:
“These statistics are very misleading,” he said. “There’s a lot more balance than the statistics show. So, there’s no negative plays passing unless you throw an interception.”
Saturday’s scrimmage didn’t allow Hurts to use his legs — a big part of his overall game. And, defenders weren’t allowed to tackle the quarterbacks, so both players had more time than they might normally have.
Still, seeing the accuracy and big plays turned in by Hurts and Tagovailoa is a good sign. But, as Saban said, there’s still a lot of work to do before the fall.
