The SEC has a number of explosive running backs who are ready to make headlines in 2017.

In fact, three SEC running backs belong in the top 5 according to NFL.com’s Bucky Brooks. He ranks the nation’s best in the following order:

1. Saquon Barkley — Penn State
2. Derrius Guice — LSU
3. Royce Freeman — Oregon
4. Nick Chubb — Georgia
5. Bo Scarbrough — Alabama

Having Derrius Guice at No. 2 is understandable. At times, he was able to tag team defenses with Leonard Fournette, one of the best SEC running backs of the past decade.

Penn State’s next leading rusher behind Saquon Barkley only managed a little over 300 yards. Fournette garnered over 800. Now with Fournette moving onto the NFL, Guice has the chance to be the No. 1 running back at LSU and the country.

It seems like Nick Chubb has been in the SEC forever. The Bulldog running back has a knack for breaking tackles and gain the valuable extra yards.

Injuries have kept him from reaching his full potential. If he can stay healthy, Chubb is more than worthy of being a top 5 running back.

Alabama might have beaten Clemson again, if not for Bo Scarbrough’s injury. He is a wrecking ball at 6-foot-2, 232-pounds. While most of his accolades and attention come from his power running, Scarbrough has the speed to change a game.
