Early Sunday morning, Auburn QB Sean White was arrested for public intoxication. By Monday, he had been dismissed from the team.

It had been a rough year for White, who had lost his starting job to Baylor transfer Jarrett Stidham and had also been suspended for the first two games of the 2017 season.

During media availability on Tuesday, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said he never likes dismissing players and hopes White gets back on his feet soon (via OANow.com):

“I feel bad for Sean. Sean’s a tough guy,” Malzahn said. “He’s a warrior. But he made some bad decisions, and I hurt for him.

“For me personally, anytime you’ve got to dismiss a player it’s not a very good feeling. So, you know, that’s probably the best way to put it.”

White was also beloved by his teammates, and WR Ryan Davis and LB Deshaun Davis echoed their coach’s sentiments about being sad to see him go:

“It’s difficult,” Ryan Davis said. “Everybody loves Sean around here. Sean is definitely one of the team favorites, so it’s sad to see him go. We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

“You know, it hurts,” Deshaun Davis added. “He came in with me. He was a guy that we looked up to as a leader. He was a brother first and foremost. To see him leave how he left is kind of disappointing. It kind of hurt for us from a family standpoint and from a team standpoint. But I’m sure he’s going to get his head back on his shoulders. He’s going to get on the right track.”

White played in 11 games for the Tigers in 2016, leading them to the Sugar Bowl by throwing for 1,679 yards and nine touchdowns.
