Tennessee senior wide receiver Josh Smith is sidelined with ligament damage in his ankle, per a report from Jesse Simonton and Austin Price of VolQuest.

The rest of his season is reportedly in question — meaning Smith may have played his last game for the Volunteers.

Smith aggravated his ankle on the first play of the second half in the Vols’ 29-26 loss at Kentucky when he caught a pass on a crossing route and immediately went down, eventually being carted off to the locker room.

Sources told VolQuest.com that Smith suffered ligament damage. It’s apparently severe enough to put the rest of his Tennessee career in jeopardy.

During his Monday press conference, Tennessee head coach Butch Jones said Smith “will definitely be out” against Southern Miss on Saturday. Smith could potentially return for a bowl game, depending on how the ankle heals.

Smith has been injured for a good portion of his career at UT. He has a total of 63 receptions for 764 yards and five touchdowns in his career.
