LISTEN: Steve Spurrier recalls Alshon Jeffery’s MVP bowl performance despite being ejected from the game

With one of his former Gamecocks set to compete for the Super Bowl championship, Steve Spurrier recently recalled one of his favorite Alshon Jeffery stories.
Telling the story as only he could, Spurrier jokingly referred back to an incident in the 2012 Capital One Bowl against Nebraska. In the game, Jeffery was actually tossed from the contest for allegedly throwing a punch. Spurrier apparently questioned whether that actually happened though.
“It happened way over on the Nebraska sideline somewhere,” Spurrier recalled on ESPNU Radio. “I said, ‘That don’t sound like Alshon.’ But anyway, (the ref) threw him out of the game.”
South Carolina would go on to win the game 30-13 over the Cornhuskers and Jeffery won game MVP honors.
“I says, ‘Somebody go to the locker room and get him.’ He still had his uniform on, I guess he knew he had a shot at (winning MVP), I guess. So he came jogging out and got his MVP award. I don’t know if that’s ever happened before. Guy got tossed out and was MVP.”
