Immediately after beating Georgia 40-17 at home in the regular season, Gus Malzahn proudly exclaimed his Auburn team “whipped the dog crap” out of the Bulldogs. Well, if you ask Greg McElroy, Georgia returned the favor by whipping the heart out of Auburn in the sequel in Atlanta.

According to the ESPN college football analyst, UCF would not have stood a chance in the College Football Playoff. He’s so confident in his opinion, that he stated that even Auburn would have beaten UCF had the Peach Bowl game held any significance.

“If a National Championship was on the line, Auburn would’ve played a whole heck of a lot better,” McElroy said during an appearance on SiriusXM radio. “Just go watch the effort. Talk to the coaches, even if they may not want to tell you that.

“Getting those guys ready to play just after they got their heart ripped out is really difficult. It is. I can tell you from experience as someone that has gone thru that in 2008 when we (Alabama) played against Utah having lost to Florida in the SEC Championship Game.”

That’s an interesting position to take for McElroy given the fact the results speak for themselves from Atlanta back in early January. We may never know how the game would have played out otherwise but McElroy clearly believes UCF had no business competing with the likes of the Playoff field in 2017.
