Sylvester Croom is returning to Alabama, sort of.

It was announced on Tuesday that the Alabama native and former Crimson Tide player has accepted a role with the Senior Bowl. Croom will serve as Senior Vice President of Operations. The Senior Bowl also announced Jim Nagy has become the organization’s new executive director following the departure of Phil Savage.

“We are excited to welcome Jim and Sylvester to the Senior Bowl family,” Angus Cooper, Chairman of the Mobile Arts & Sports Association, said in a statement.

Croom is most known for his five-year stretch as head coach of Mississippi State. He was the first African-American head football coach in the SEC. Unfortunately for Bulldog fans, the hiring proved to be a poor one, as Croom’s MSU teams went 21-38 overall and 10-30 in SEC play from 2004-08.

Croom served as running backs coach for the Tennessee Titans last season, coaching former Alabama running back Derrick Henry.
