Report: Tennessee considering large buyout for former chancellor Beverly Davenport

The Tennessee Volunteers seem to love handing out massive buyouts these days, and former chancellor Beverly Davenport could be the next to receive a large sum.
After originally being relieved of her chancellor duties, Davenport stayed on as a professor in the communications department, but now, according to a report from RockyTopInsider.com, that won’t be the case.
Per the report, a $1.33 million separation package is being considered for Davenport, which would completely end her ties with the university:
According to a release from the university, the University’s Board of Trustees Audit and Compliance Committee is considering a recommendation from university president Joe DiPietro to approve a separation agreement and payment of $1.33 million to Davenport. If DiPietro’s recommendation is approved, Davenport’s employment at Tennessee will end June 5th and no taxpayer dollars, student tuition or fees, or donor funds will be used to fund the separation payment.
It’s good that no taxpayer dollars will be used for the settlement, as it was Tennessee’s decision to fire her in the first place.
The payment isn’t official yet, but it offers the Vols a clean break, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see it be passed through in the coming days.
