Report: ESPN, Paul Finebaum still not close on new contract as current deal nears expiration

Since signing with ESPN back in 2013, Paul Finebaum has become a national name, appearing on College GameDay, SEC Nation, hosting his own show and more.
However, as the end of Finebaum’s five-year deal nears its expiration at the end of July, the two sides are reportedly nowhere near a new contract.
According to a report from Sporting News, one source said contracts of this nature are usually finalized by now, which makes Finebaum’s situation unusual:
“Finebaum could be a free agent in a month, but there’s been radio silence,” one source told SN. “Usually with a guy this big, these things are wrapped up in advance.”
Finebaum and the SEC Network are almost synonymous with each other, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens over the next month.
It seems strange to think of the network without Finebaum, but stranger things have happened in the sports media world.
