The New England Patriots selected former Georgia RB Sony Michel with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, but had yet to get him under contract as of this weekend.

However, Michel became one of the final rookies to sign his first NFL deal, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The signing takes place just in time for Michel to report to the Patriots’ camp when rookies are expected to show up:

Michel should have plenty of opportunity to shine in the Patriots’ offense, but he’ll have to prove himself this preseason. The Pats also have James White, Rex Burkhead, Jeremy Hill, Ralph Webb, Brandon Bolden and Mike Gillislee in a crowded backfield.

But now Michel can at least join the team when rookies report to camp, so he won’t miss a beat in preparations for his rookie season.
