As the issue of College Football Playoff expansion continues to dominate national conversation, it seems many fans and coaches are on board with a move to eight teams (and some want 16).

Don’t count popular radio host Dan Patrick among them, though. On Wednesday’s episode of “The Dan Patrick Show,” Patrick blasted the idea of further expansion.

As you can hear in the video below, he acknowledges why coaches think expansion is a good idea, but said he doesn’t want to devalue the regular season:

“If I’m a coach, why wouldn’t I want this?” Patrick asks. “I’ve got a better chance to be in the national championship picture, I’m in the playoffs. That’s what you want, and I’m sure there are going to be added bonuses for these contracts for these coaches. I get it. It benefits them if you add more teams.

“I just don’t want to devalue the regular season. We’ve done that with college basketball and I don’t want to jeopardize that with college football. I want every game to matter.”

There are certainly multiple sides to this debate, and Patrick makes a good point. Nothing will likely be decided this offseason, though, so expect it to continue next offseason.
