The Alabama Crimson Tide are the No. 1 team in the first College Football Playoff rankings of the 2018 season, and many think they’ll run the table.

However, what happens if they do slip up, perhaps even this weekend at LSU? On Tuesday’s rankings show, ESPN broadcaster Chris Fowler said he thinks the Tide could still make the final four.

Fowler cited the respect Alabama gets from the Playoff Selection Committee as a big reason the Tide could still get in with a loss:

“I think Alabama stands almost in a class by itself in the Committee’s eyes,” he said. “So if they were to stumble in Baton Rouge and not win the division, and we’ve seen them get in the bracket before without winning the SEC West, that, I think is the exception. If they go back and lose to Georgia, that would be the debate. Would they drop out? That depends on what Michigan and the other teams would do.”

Of course, Nick Saban and his squad would probably rather just win out and take all avenues for debate out of the question.

But that game in Baton Rouge this weekend won’t be an easy one.
