One of the biggest jos in college football could be coming open if an NFL team gets its way.

A source told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that the New York Jets plan to make a run at Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh. The Jets job has not officially come open, but the team is expected to fire current coach Todd Bowles.

Harbaugh has denied interest in returning to the NFL during his Michigan tenure. Florio makes a point of noting that this is Harbaugh’s fourth season at UM and he left both Stanford and the San Francisco 49ers after four seasons.

Florio reports that the Jets “started digging” on Harbaugh four weeks ago and plan to interview him. With Florio’s story out, one can expect Harbaugh to address the report the next time he speaks to the media.

Harbaugh’s 10-2 Michigan squad, ranked No. 7, is set to take on No. 10 Florida (9-3) Saturday in the Peach Bowl.
