Report: Chiefs decide to release former Tennessee S Eric Berry
When the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a contract with former LSU star Tyrann Mathieu earlier this week, fans were excited to see him in the secondary alongside former Tennessee star Eric Berry.
However, the Chiefs apparently had different plans, and released Berry on Wednesday afternoon.
Per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Chiefs released Berry two days before $7.25 million of his salary would have become guaranteed:
Chiefs released five-time Pro Bowl safety Eric Berry. Had Berry been on KC’s roster Friday, $7.25 million of his salary would have become fully guaranteed.

It’s possible Berry, who has dealt with an Achilles tear and subsequent complications the past two seasons, appearing in only four total games, will re-sign with the Chiefs on a lesser contract.
However, when free agency starts on Thursday, he’ll be free to sign with whatever team he wants to.
