Detroit franchise quarterback Matthew Stafford let his frustration get the better of him Saturday.

Stafford dropped back to pass, and linebacker Jahlani Tavai tipped it up in the air and then picked it off. Tavai actually looked like he was going to run it back for a touchdown, and then, out of nowhere, Stafford came streaking down the sideline and trucked him.

Stafford took out his anger on the rookie linebacker, and he immediately felt bad about it.

“I felt bad about that, you know?” Stafford said Friday, via MLive.com. “Like afterwards, I was like, that was kind of messed up. I’m in a red jersey, he can’t hit me, and I went and hit him. I was just being aggressive. But he’s a big kid, yeah.”

Quarterbacks never get to deliver these kinds of hits. Stafford had to take advantage of it when the opportunity presented itself.

The Lions shared Tavai’s INT on Twitter, but it cut short of showing Stafford hitting and driving through him along the side. You can see Stafford in the red jersey below taking the angle to the sideline:

The former Georgia signal caller is entering his 11th season in Detroit. He’s thrown for 38,500 yards and 237 touchdowns during his impressive career.
