The XFL may have folded but Oliver Luck still wants to get paid.
That’s the message sent this week as the former XFL commissioner filed a lawsuit against league owner Vince McMahon after the XFL decided to declare bankruptcy and end the league after only a few games being played following the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Darren Rovell of the Action Network, Luck’s case is simple, the former XFL commissioner believes he was wrongfully terminated. Luck’s contract with the XFL is believed to be around $20-25 million over five years with the stipulation noting he would be due his remaining salary if terminated without cause.
When the XFL officially filed for bankruptcy, several creditors were listed by the league — including league coaches Bob Stoops ($1.083 million), Marc Trestman ($777,777), the Jonathan Hayes ($633,333) — but Luck was not mentioned in the bankruptcy filing.
Luck left a top position with the NCAA to serve as the first commissioner of the new XFL.
