Rapid Reaction: Stanford hands Vanderbilt second loss of the season

Vanderbilt had some momentum after escaping Colorado State with a win last weekend.

However, that momentum didn’t last through the entire game on Saturday against a Pac-12 foe in Stanford. After keeping things close in the early going, the Commodores were simply overmatched on their home field by the Cardinal.

Stanford took a 27-14 lead into halftime and then owned the second half, cruising to a 41-23 victory on Vandy’s home field.

Tanner McKee threw for 218 yards and 2 touchdowns in a very workmanlike performance for Stanford. The Cardinal were led by Austin Jones’ 80 yards on the ground, though they ran for 204 total yards on the night.

For Vandy, Ken Seals had an up-and-down day. He threw for 120 yards, completing only 16 of his 37 passes. He had 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

Rocko Griffin had a big day on the ground for the Commodores, running 19 times for 107 yards.

But, at the end of the day, it wasn’t enough for Clark Lea’s squad to pick up win No. 2. It’s going to be tough for that to happen on this coming Saturday, too, as Georgia comes to town.

That could get ugly. Another long SEC season could be coming for this squad unless things start to change on both sides of the ball.
