Brian Kelly has left Notre Dame to become the head coach at LSU, and he may be trying to bring defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman with him. However, Freeman may not be the only member of Kelly’s Fighting Irish staff who is now being targeted by the Tigers.

According to The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna, Kelly is “making a hard run” at Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees to follow him to LSU. If Kelly is successful in his pursuit of Rees and Freeman, he’d have his top 2 assistants with him at his new school.

Rees is currently in his second season as Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator, and he previously served as the team’s quarterbacks coach from 2017-19. He also played for the Fighting Irish, as he was a QB for the program from 2010-13.

Rees’ father, Bill, is the director of scouting at Notre Dame.

So if Rees decides to follow Kelly to LSU, he’ll be leaving a school that he has plenty of ties to. However, Rees has had success while coaching under Kelly, as the Fighting Irish have won at least 10 games every season since 2017.
