Former Alabama baseball player, 22, dies at off-campus apartment

A former Alabama baseball player who transferred in the spring after 2 seasons with the Crimson Tide as an infielder, has died, reportedly of natural causes.
Davis Heller, who transferred to North Greenville University in the spring, died Oct. 5, according to a news release from the South Carolina school. He was 22 years old.
“We are deeply saddened by the death of North Greenville University student-athlete Davis Heller, who died October 5 in his off-campus apartment. Although there is an ongoing investigation, initial indications are that he died of natural causes.
Davis was a junior from Gilbert, Arizona, majoring in Strategic Communication. A first baseman for NGU baseball, he was in his first semester after transferring from the University of Alabama. “Our baseball program is heartbroken over the loss of an amazing human being and brother in Christ,” said NGU Coach Landon Powell. “Davis was a positive force everywhere he went. A gentle giant who greeted everyone with a smile and constantly uplifted those around him. An example of what a great teammate should be, Davis has left a lasting legacy on this program. A great competitor, but even better friend to those who got to know him.”

As a sophomore, Heller appeared in 8 games with 2 starts, AL.com reported. He went 2-for-10 at the plate with a double, RBI and a pair of walks. He went down with a season-ending injury at the end of his freshman season while starting five of the 15 games. He was 6-for-27 with six walks and six runs scored.
Heller is originally from Gilbert, Arizona and transferred to Alabama from South Mountain Community College.
