4 Alabama underclassmen announce they will enter the NFL Draft
Four standout members of Alabama’s 2020 national championship squad are officially off to the NFL. During a joint media session Thursday, defensive lineman Christian Barmore, quarterback Mac Jones, defensive back Patrick Sartain II and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle officially declared for the 2021 NFL Draft.
Barmore leaves having completed his redshirt sophomore season, satisfying the requirements of being three seasons removed from high school. Barmore led the Crimson Tide defense in sacks with 8, also recording 37 tackles (9.5 TFL), 6 quarterback hurries, 3 pass breakups and 3 forced fumbles.
Jones departs after shining as a redshirt junior. A finalist for the Heisman Trophy and winner of two prominent quarterback awards (Johnny Unitas Golden Arm, Davey O’Brien), Jones led the nation in passing yards (4,500), completion percentage (77.4), and yards per attempt (11.2) throwing 41 touchdowns to just 4 interceptions.
Surtain was a junior in 2020. He led the SEC in pass breakups with 12 also recording 38 tackles (3.5 TFL), 3 QB hurries and an interception returned for a score. Surtain earned unanimous All-American recognition for his standout play this season.
Waddle leaves after a junior season in which he missed seven full games and all but one play of the Tennessee game. In his six appearances (including UT and limited playing time in the national championship game), he recorded 28 catches for 591 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Go get paid!
Glad to see Mac Jones entering. His stock is high and it keeps Bryce Young in the fold.
With the transfer rules Bryce wasnt sticking around another year on the bench. Hopefully he has a strong 2 years and then he will be gone as well
Thanks for all you gave us this season and throughout your careers at Alabama
Good luck in the pros!
Funny, we hear some SEC fans excited because they have players coming back for a 5th season. Imagine if our players just stayed 4!!
Kind of a double edged sword, if they indeed did stay 4 y’all certainly would have a lot more 2 and 3 year men in the Transfer Portal I would imagine. Hard to keep that much talent content…
This is great news, hopefully we can get another 14 or so underclassmen to abandon Saban’s ship and head to the bigs just like the mass exodus at LSShoe last year! Or maybe I’m just a dreamer…Barmore and Surtain showed they’re ready, Mac and Waddle expected…time to go get paid, ya’ll did well.
That was painful to endure. Then it didn’t stop with all the opt outs(quitters) we lost 5 more starters.
A sincere wish of good luck to all of them. Wise decision probably hard to improve their draft value given this seasons results.
They shouldn’t have let Waddle play imo. Reckless.
The kid earned a lot of money by coming back and playing. The NFL GMs saw that and will remember when it comes drat time. Especially with all these me me me players who opted out.
He could have gotten hurt worse. The GMs saw a guy hobbling around. He didn’t earn any money on Monday night.
4 mighty fine players. Good luck men!
Looks like the thought of facing the Gators in The Swamp was too intimidating for them.
Oh my…. I bet they are trembling.
WE LOVE IT ON THE BAYOU…
IM TELLING YOU BAMA AINT GOMNA BE GOOD NEXT YEAR, WATCH AND SEE!
DEM BAYOU BENGALS COMIN, AND WE AINT BACKIN DOWN!
This is like TN fans saying, “Next year is our year!’ Where it just isn’t going to happen. Alabama will be good until they lose the coach that is making them succeed.
