Alabama officially picked up the signature of 5-star running back Camar Wheaton on National Signing Day.

Wheaton has been committed to the Crimson Tide since Dec. 23, but did not sign during the Early Signing Period. There was some doubt over his future after Alabama running backs coach Charles Huff took the Marshall head coaching job.

However, new running backs coach Robert Gillespie was clearly able to convince Wheaton that Alabama was the place to stay.

Wheaton attends Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas.

Wheaton is the No. 33 overall player and the No. 2 running back in the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite rankings,

This is the second straight season the Crimson Tide have been able to pull a bluechip running back out of Texas. Alabama signed 4-star running back Jase McClellan out of Aledo, Texas, in the 2020 class.

Wheaton was the lone committed prospect who remained unsigned for Alabama heading into National Signing Day.

As it stands as of press time, Alabama has the No. 1 class in the country according to 247Sports Composite rankings — a class that includes seven 5-star prospects. Ohio State, Georgia, LSU and Clemson round out the top five.
