On Thursday, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key was going to Georgia Tech, his alma mater, for a reunion with Geoff Collins. Key met with reporters Saturday in San Jose ahead of the national championship game against Clemson.

“That’s obviously where I went to college and where I played ball but, man, I don’t know where those came from — where the rumors came from but I’m here at Alabama,” Key said, per AL.com’s Michael Casagrande. “I have not accepted the job at Georgia Tech. It’s all about these guys and what we’re doing right now.”

Fans are known to pick apart every word of a denial. While “not accepted” and “right now” might give some fans pause, Key went a step further saying he hasn’t even been in contact with Georgia Tech.

Key also denied interviewing with Georgia Tech and new head coach Geoff Collins.

“Nope,” he said. “I don’t know where it came from.”

Key expressed surprise when he heard the reports linking to his alma mater.

“Yeah,” he said. “Nobody has called me.”

Key is ranked the No. 2 recruiter in the country for the 2019 class on the 247Sports Composite. This is his third season at Alabama after 11 years at UCF (which includes two seasons that overlap with Collins’ time on the Knights staff).
