The Alabama Crimson Tide are searching for a new head coach for the first time in 17 years after Nick Saban announced his retirement Wednesday.

Naturally, many are curious about what the next step will be for the Tide. Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne released a statement on social media explaining what the process will be.

“As with any coaching search, our goal is to be thorough, but expedient,” Bryne’s public statement reads. “Our ideal candidate will be strong in recruiting and relationship building, player development, excel in Xs and Os and have the overall ability to lead this historic program. There will be plenty of rumors out there during this process. Next time I talk publicly will be to announce our new coach. If you don’t hear it from me, don’t believe it. Roll Tide!”

Notably, the AD expressed the search will be “thorough, but expedient.” The Tide will want to move quickly as National Signing Day is less than a month away. Byrne also mentioned that there will be “plenty of rumors,” but stressed to not believe anything unless stated by Byrne himself.

Saban had a historic tenure at Alabama that resulted in six national championships and a .877 winning percentage.
