Nick Saban is close to hiring Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees as Alabama’s new offensive coordinator, as Rees, 30, is close to accepting the job offer, Outkick’s Glenn Guilbeau reported.

However, Alabama may not make an official announcement of the hire, if it happens, for several days after Saban makes other hires. Saban earlier this week offered the OC job to Ryan Grubb, the Washington offensive coordinator, but Grubb reportedly turned it down.

Crimson Tide defensive analyst Todd Grantham reportedly is leaving Alabama for an assistant coaching job with the New Orleans Saints, according to a report by ESPN’s Chris Low.

Rees has been on Notre Dame’s coaching staff since 2017 and chose to remain with the Fighting Irish after the transition from Brian Kelly to Marcus Freeman last offseason. Rees drew criticism from Fighting Irish fans during several games, but especially in losses to Ohio State, Marshall and Stanford.

The Fighting Irish were ranked No. 60 in total offense in the country last season.
