Before landing Oklahoma graduate transfer QB Trevor Knight, Texas A&M was desperate for a quarterback.

Late last year, both Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray transferred from the school, leaving the Aggies in a bind.

That’s when coach Kevin Sumlin and company reached out to now-Alabama QB Jalen Hurts, according to AL.com.

Hurts, a Texas native, was already committed to Alabama and chose to stick with that decision, which clearly has paid off both for the young quarterback and the Crimson Tide.

Though the Aggies were spurned by Hurts, Sumlin said he wishes the freshman the best:

“He’s got a bright future,” Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin told reporters of Hurts in September before smiling and adding, “and I hope he plays well against everybody except one.”

Sumlin’s Aggies travel to Tuscaloosa to play Hurts and the Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoon in one of the biggest SEC matchups of the season.
