Alabama radio broadcaster clarifies comments about Tennessee crowd noise

Alabama and Tennessee played 1 of the biggest games of last weekend, and the Volunteers were able to get the 24-17 victory at home.

While the game is over, there is still a conversation going on after an Alabama radio broadcaster implied that Tennessee’s Neyland Stadium is so loud because of pumped in crowd noise.

Alabama play-by-play announcer Chris Stewart made the claim after Alabama was called for a false start.

“Second-and-16 is not what you’re looking for, especially with the noise level being what it is here,” Stewart said about the sellout crowd of 101,915. “You’ve got 100,000-plus, and they also pipe in crowd noise, as well.”

During an appearance on the 3 Man Front show, Stewart said he didn’t mean anything by his statement.

“I didn’t think about it when I said it, and somebody with nothing to do decided to go back and find a clip from a four-hour broadcast,” Stewart said. “I misspoke, but it really wasn’t, in theory, off. I said that you have 100,000 (fans) and piped-in crowd noise. Which is not what I should have said. What I should have said is amplified noise. And that’s clear they do it. They’ve got speakers all on the field level behind our benches pointing toward the stands.

Alabama did let the home crowd affect it, as the Crimson Tide had 15 penalties for 115 yards.
