It’s still more than 10 days away, but the hype surrounding the LSU-Alabama matchup has already begun.

With both teams on bye and ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, in the AP Top 25, why not? This is the biggest matchup between the two rivals since they met while both undefeated in what was billed “The Game of the Century” in 2011.

Alabama running back Brian Robinson was 11 years old when that game was played in Nov. 2011. Anderson, a Tuscaloosa native, remembers watching the game in his house and recalled Tuesday in front of reporters what a terrific scene is was around town before and during that contest.

“It was just the atmosphere and how many people were tuned into that game and the outcome of that game,” he said Tuesday afternoon. “It was a great game. … It’ll be the same type atmosphere (this yr), the difference is I’ll be a part of it this time.”

LSU won that matchup at Tuscaloosa, which was a terrific defensive struggle, 9-6. Once again, the Tigers will roll into Bryant-Denny Stadium this year undefeated and the No. 1 team in the country.

However, Alabama earned the last laugh in 2011, as the two teams met again in the National Championship Game, where the Crimson Tide won, 21-0.

With the dawn of the College Football Playoff, it’s more likely than it was even in 2011 that two top-ranked teams from the same division could face each other again in the national championship. If this LSU-Alabama matchup is close and both teams win the rest of their games, they could easily square off once more time for all the marbles.
