Alabama has called a team meeting for 9 p.m. CT on Friday evening as its head coaching search is set to come a close, according to a report.

That’s per ESPN’s Chris Low, who also broke the story earlier in the week that Nick Saban had decided to retire. Reports have been circulating Friday that Alabama is set to hire Washington’s Kalen DeBoer as its next head coach.

Athletic director Greg Byrne strongly hinted at the end of the Tide’s coaching search on Friday evening and said a plane (presumably carrying DeBoer) was on its way from Seattle.

This meeting figures to be DeBoer’s first chance to address Alabama’s roster as he prepares to take over in Tuscaloosa. DeBoer’s first order of business will be retaining the considerable talent on Alabama’s roster for the 2024 season. Because of the coaching change, Alabama players do have a 30-day window to enter the transfer portal.

There’s also the matter of Alabama’s incoming 2024 recruiting class, which is ranked amongst the top classes in the country. The Tide have already lost a commitment from 5-star receiver Ryan Williams in the wake of Saban’s retirement. However, it’s possible Williams will reconsider the Tide before officially signing with another program in February.

An official announcement from Alabama is expected soon.
