In one regard, Butch Jones deserves some credit, as he’s likely one of the most compensated interns in America.

The previous face of Tennessee football is the latest former head coach to attempt to rehab his coaching image at the Nick Saban school for coaches that who can’t coach good and want to learn to do other stuff good too in Tuscaloosa. When asked about Jones’ role within the program at the start of spring practice, Saban referred to the former Tennessee coach as an intern in the Alabama program.

Now we know what Alabama pays its interns. According to Blake Toppmeyer of USA TODAY, Jones will be paid $35,000 by the Crimson Tide. This information comes following a records request from USA TODAY.

The money Tennessee owes Jones for firing him, over $8 million, will still need to be paid by the school. His buyout at Tennessee will be mitigated from his earnings at Alabama. Tennessee has until early 2021 to pay Jones the full amount it owes him.
