Alabama’s latest departures for the transfer portal are a pair of former blue-chip prospects that were highly sought-after. Wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks and defensive lineman Isaiah Hastings are reported to be the newest portal entrants out of UA.

A 5-star recruit out of the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, Brooks signed with Alabama as part of the Class of 2021, choosing the Crimson Tide over scholarship offers from 27 other programs. He has played in 36 games over 3 seasons. Brooks’ Alabama bio notes that he has been limited by an upper-body injury sustained in the win over LSU on Nov. 4.

Brooks logged 57 catches for 896 yards and 10 touchdowns in his Alabama career. His best year came in 2022, when he recorded 39 receptions for 674 yards and 8 scores. This season, he has just 30 receiving yards on 3 catches in 8 games.

Hastings, originally from Toronto, Canada, was a 4-star recruit out of Clearwater (Florida) Academy International. He elected to play for Nick Saban over 29 other scholarship offers.

Last season, Hastings made his 2022 debut against ULM, logging his first tackle. He has not played in 2023.

Considering their situations, neither player’s absence is likely to impact Alabama in its College Football Playoff semifinal clash with No. 1 Michigan.
