Alabama vs. Ohio State: Media, fans react to the national title matchup
The Alabama Crimson Tide will take on the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national title game.
Alabama defeated Notre Dame 31-14 earlier Friday afternoon in the Rose Bowl, while Ohio State pounded Clemson 49-28 Friday night in the Sugar Bowl. Quarterback Justin Fields was unstoppable, finishing 22-of-28 for 385 yards and 6 touchdowns. Running back Trey Sermon racked up 197 rushing yards and 1 touchdown. Wide receiver Chris Olave caught 8 passes for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns.
So, while everyone thought Alabama would face Clemson and Trevor Lawrence in the title, it’s Ohio State crashing the party.
How do the Tide and Buckeyes match up? It should be a fantastic and entertaining game.
Below is how social media is weighing in on the matchup:
Who would have thought that controversial Ohio State would be dominating and outcoached by Clemson? A blowout. But Alabama will kill the Buckeyes.

Look, an Alabama-Ohio State national championship game should be awesome.

Alabama v Ohio State may be like 55-54. I’m down for that.

Ohio State is literally playing an almost perfect game against a Clemson team that had been its foil of late, including last year. Question is: Can they replicate this type of performance against Alabama?

Alabama could have a big issue with Ohio State. I’ve been more impressed with what I’ve seen in Ohio State today than Bama. Should be a great game though for the championship.

Y’all remember what happened last time Ohio State played Alabama? It’s Sermon time pic.twitter.com/KpLBG0ihDS

Alabama 42 Ohio state 21. Next week

Unpopular opinion right now: If I was Alabama, I would still rather play Ohio State.

Dream land right now for ESPN executives: Ohio State and Alabama are by far the best CFB television viewership teams nationally over the past five years. No better potential matchup for viewership in a title game.

Alabama a bad match up for Ohio State.

I can’t think of a more horrid national title game then Alabama and Ohio State.

I didn’t think I’d ever say this but Alabama could have a dogfight against Ohio State if this result holds.

Well for the first time all year OSU is going to have to get over injuries and being banged up, and prepare for a game in 2 consecutive weeks.
Yeah both teams took a beating physically…
Is Waddle going to play? I hope he makes it back.
I seriously doubt it..
Don’t say that you never know. Waddle was physically able to play today
According to who?
Tide – there’s a over a week between Jan 1st and Jan 11th! If Fields was hurt as bad as he let on he might be even MORE sore today than last night. They said he didn’t have any broken ribs so that’s good. I had some torn cartilage in a few ribs and it took over a MONTH to be able to breathe deeply without pain. We’ll see how he recovers. I’m sure he’ll play through any pain though!
I am so excited for this matchup. I think this game is gonna be back and forth and can’t wait to see Mac tear that tOSU secondary apart.
On a side note I hope Ryan Day ranks Clemson 12th in his poll next week lol
That would be the definition of equal justice.
well I actually guessed this right… Bama wins. They were easily better than Notre Dame today and they are better than Ohio State. Kudos to Ryan Day. He clearly got his team up and ready to go. Unfortunately they will not be getting any bulletin board material from Saban like they did with Dabo…
I’m no fan of the B1G, but they’ve made a statement today. Northwestern romped Auburn and gave OSU and Fields all they could handle in the CCG. I believe the B1G is undefeated so far this bowl season. The Big 12 is showing out as well – not bad after getting embarrassed by the Sun Belt the first week of the season. The SEC is not exactly sparkling this post-season, but the again, no one has ever played a 10-game conference schedule before. Been that kind of a year.
Clemson played three big ranked games this year and lost two. As did Norte Dame. Florida lost 3 big ones plus one they shouldn’t have. The in-season darlings, other than Bama, have laid big fat eggs so far post-season. The obvious short-straw in all this is A&M, and they can put an exclamation mark on that error later today.
Good luck to Bama – they might need it.
I wouldn’t put too much into that romp over Auburn! We had TWO WINS this year – AUBURN and VANDY! NW nearly beat OSU so we knew they were good and also knew AU was not that good.
The media is going to spin the Ohio State underdog spin!! Trust Nick Saban and Bama is not going to give them bulletin board material. Last match up I don’t think Bama took Cardell Jones serious and paid dearly for it.This is a different Bama team I don’t think the defense is as overall as gifted as the 2015 defense but I think this defense is much better built to stop the spread. The media is once again going to hype the cinderella story for Ohio State Bama need to block that out and just come out and continue to play like they have and I honestly know Bama is a more talented team than Ohio State. Every since Saban mentioned rat poison as funny as it seemed at the time. You have not seen Alabama out of any game period even the loss to LSU. Saban even gives the worst of opponents praise before he plays them.. This Bama team will come in just as hungry as Ohio State and motivated and Alabama overall talent should allow them to win if they just continue to play thier game.
Look, I want Bama to win and win big but they have had trouble when facing elite qb’s this season. Two things they can’t let happen
1. Let osu’s oline make massive holes for their running backs
2. Let Fields sit in the pocket for 5 seconds until their wr’s and tight ends get open.
I believe Bama wins but I don’t think they dominate OSU’s offense. OSU is legit in the trenches and their skill players are too. Bama wins in a high scoring game.
The media favorite vs the Orange man. How appropriate
