TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — University of Alabama junior wide receiver Parker Barrineau shared the news with a tweet on Saturday morning.

“Got the phone call today from Coach Saban. Honored and humbled to be put on full scholarship.”

The former walk-on played in 10 games this last season and along with senior Michael Nysewander was a special-teams regular by the Sugar Bowl. The product of Northport, Ala., which is just across the river from Tuscaloosa, participated in in seven games in 2013 and had two receptions for 16 yards.

Barrineau’s scholarship was also an indication that Alabama’s usual numbers situation isn’t as tight as some fans fear. The Crimson Tide had just 14 scholarship seniors on the 2014 team, with three early departures for the NFL, yet coaches are on pace to sign the maximum number of players, 25.

Coach Nick Saban has made it a policy not to disclose roster information regarding the maximum of 85 scholarships, and attrition due to transfers and academic issues has become a regular part of the offseason.

Alabama has eight early enrollees this month, although running back Bo Scarbrough will count towards the Class of 2014 as he needed an extra semester to qualify academically.
