Ben Roethlisberger has watched Najee Harris’ development up close as the former Alabama star is transitioning to being a key player on the Pittsburgh Steelers in his rookie season.

Roethlisberger on Wednesday shared what he’s seen from Harris in terms of growth as a running back.

“He wants to do more than just be a great runner,” Roethlisberger said. “Being a running back is about more than just being a good runner. Pass pro. Down the field, I think even on one of the reverses I was watching, he at least got in the way and created a block. So I think he takes pride in wanting to be great, and we’re seeing a lot of growth.”

Harris has 479 rushing yards on 3.7-yards-per-carry average, with 3 touchdowns. He also has 37 catches in 7 games for 273 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Steelers used the 24th overall pick, and they appear to be glad they did. Harris had his high-water mark this season against the Denver Broncos with a season-best 122 yards on 23 carries.
