Brandon Miller on Wednesday ahead of the SEC Tournament made his first public comments since the Alabama star’s name was mentioned in court testimony that revealed Miller’s interactions with former teammate Darius Miles the night of Jamea Harris’ murder in January.

“I never lose sight of the fact that a family has lost one of their loved ones that night,” Miller said. “This whole situation is just really heartbreaking. Respectfully, that’s all I’m going to be able to say on that.”

During a bond hearing in February, law enforcement testified that former teammate Darius Miles left his gun in the back seat of Miller’s car and asked him to bring it to the scene of the incident, where Michael Davis is alleged to have used it to fire the shot that killed Harris, a 23-year old mother from Birmingham.

Since then, Miller has picked up multiple awards as Alabama is the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament. Miller has been named the Associated Press SEC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, and an All-America honor by The Sporting News in recent days.

The 6-foot-9 forward is only the fourth freshman in the last 50 years to lead the SEC in scoring, averaging 19.6 points along with 8.0 rebounds. He is also tops in 3-pointers made, making 92 and hitting at a 40.4% rate, the AP reported.
