Eli Gold has voiced the most historic moments of Alabama football since his arrival in 1988 to join the team’s radio network.

Unfortunately, Gold missed the Crimson Tide’s season opener against Utah State at Bryant-Denny Stadium due to health issues. He won’t be in Austin, either, as Alabama visits Texas.

On Saturday, Gold appeared on the Crimson Tide’s pregame show with Chris Stewart, who is filling in for him during his absence, and discussed more details about what had kept him from behind the mic.

“I’m not going to be back next week. I’m not going to be back the week after. But I will be back,” he said, according to the Tuscaloosa News’ Nick Kelly. “It’s just a matter of getting my act together.”

Gold, who stated that he has lost 100 pounds, also mentioned that he “[wasn’t] sick” but was dealing with “orthopedic issues” that had hindered his movement in recent years.

“It was time to get that taken care of. It’s gone a little too long,” he added. “I’m doing well.”
