In the hours after the San Francisco 49ers lost to the Washington Redskins on Sunday, rookie San Francisco 49ers LB Reuben Foster and teammate Ray-Ray Armstrong were nearly robbed at gunpoint outside a club.

According to a report by MissionLocal.org, Foster and Armstrong were aware someone was watching them from a car outside the club and gave their valuables to friends inside the building. They then asked security guards to escort them to their vehicles.

However, the men in the car still attempted the robbery, brandishing weapons, but Foster, Armstrong and the others fled on foot:

“They did the right thing,” said a San Francisco Police Department veteran. “They were smart enough to have the security guard escort them to their car. But you don’t want to take on [high-powered weaponry]. Better to get out of there.”

The 49ers released a statement on Tuesday acknowledging the incident and saying the players will cooperate with police (via Pro Football Talk):

“We are aware of the reports regarding the robbery and are very thankful no one was harmed,” the statement read. “Reuben and Ray-Ray have been, and will continue to be, cooperative with any further police investigation.”

Fortunately, no one was hurt in the robbery attempt, but it was still a scary experience for Foster and Armstrong.
