Former Alabama QB Mac Jones filled in last week after Trevor Lawrence was knocked out of the game against the Houston Texans after he was hit while sliding.
He filled in nicely, almost bringing the team back before losing 23-20. He finished the game, going 20-of-32 for 235 yards and 2 touchdowns. It was announced that the Jaguars were putting Lawrence on the injured reserve. With that being announced, Jones will be the starter this weekend for Jacksonville.
Jones has started multiple games this year already, and coach Doug Pederson told reporters that Jones can use that moving forward the rest of the season.
“I think he’s learned from the two previous starts that he had, and really just ran the offense,” he said of Jones’ game against the Texans. “Ran it like he knows how to run it, like what it looks like to him. I think that’s something we can build on this week.”
On the season, Jones has thrown for 512 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The Jaguars are 2-10 on the season, and are out of any playoff race. The team gave Lawrence a huge contract, so he is the starting quarterback of the future.
However, this is a great opportunity for Jones to show the rest of the NFL he could possibly still be a starting quarterback in the league.
