A former assistant for Nick Saban will reportedly not be accepting the defensive coordinator position under Kalen DeBoer.

The assistant in question is Travaris Robinson, Alabama’s cornerbacks coach under Saban since the start of 2022. It has been a busy week for Robinson with Georgia announcing he has been hired to serve as Kirby Smart’s co-DC and safeties coach with Will Muschamp moving to an analyst role.

Despite that announcement, ESPN’s Chris Low reports Robinson interviewed with DeBoer on Sunday “for several hours” regarding the DC job in Tuscaloosa. Ultimately, Low reports Robinson will remain at Georgia as a part of Smart’s coaching staff.

So far, reports indicate DeBoer will utilize a number of his key Washington assistants to round out his offensive coaches, including OC Ryan Grubb and offensive line coach Scott Huff. He is also reportedly retaining defensive line coach Freddie Roach and running backs coach Robert Gillespie.

The DC post under DeBoer remains one of the biggest questions for his initial coaching staff in Tuscaloosa. With Robinson reportedly off the table, it will be interesting to see where DeBoer turns.
