Georgia announced a major hire for its defensive coaching staff on Saturday morning, as Alabama cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson was named the Bulldogs’ co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. Robinson spent 2 seasons in Tuscaloosa under Nick Saban following a year at Miami as its defensive backs coach.

Robinson will fill the role previously held by Will Muschamp, who will step aside to become a defensive analyst to spend more time with his family. Robinson served on Muschamp’s staff as defensive backs coach from 2011 to 2014, and when Muschamp was brought on as Auburn’s defensive coordinator in 2015, Robinson joined the Tigers staff to coach DBs.

Muschamp returned to the head coaching ranks at South Carolina ahead of the 2016 season, bringing Robinson with him as his defensive coordinator. The two served together until Muschamp’s firing in 2020.

With Nick Saban retiring and Kalen DeBoer taking the reins at Alabama, Kirby Smart made the move to add Robinson to his staff, where he will take on the duties once held by Muschamp.
