Greg McElroy details what is the worst nightmare scenario for the College Football Playoff committee.

McElroy after the latest rankings reveal went on his podcast “Always College Football” to lay out what he thinks the committee doesn’t want to see happen.

“That is the committee’s worst nightmare,” McElroy said. “The committee’s worst nightmare is for Texas to win out as the Big 12 title winner. Then for Alabama to win out, and Alabama beats Georgia the 2-time defending champ that won, at that point, 30 in a row. They have to decide between the two when Texas has not looked great in the process where as Alabama has gotten better, and better, and better, and better.”

McElroy continued on with why he thinks this would make for an uncomfortable decision for the committee.

“The committee has always said, the 4 best teams,” McElroy said. “If you don’t think Texas is better than Alabama based on the eye test, then that’s playing into what the committee has long preached. But what the committee would also be doing if they put Alabama ahead of Texas, is telling everybody that watches college football that the regular season doesn’t matter.”

Alabama’s lone blemish this season was a 34-24 loss that came against Texas back in week 2. The Crimson Tide seem to be hitting their stride now with 2 ranked wins in their last 3 matchups, and a future date with No. 1 Georgia looming in the SEC Championship Game.

Alabama hosts Chattanooga this Saturday at Noon ET on ESPN Plus.
