Alabama and Auburn going to 4 overtimes proved to bring a massive audience to CBS for its broadcast of the Iron Bowl last week.
CBS Sports reported that it was the second-most watched regular season game since 2019 as the peak audience was 17.3 million people, including an average of 10.3 million viewers, which was up 55 percent from 2020. Birmingham proved to be the top market with an eye-popping 53.7 rating, and a 76 share out of all the households that were actively watching TV in that time slot.

It was the first overtime in the Iron Bowl, and it ended when John Metchie caught a pass from Bryce Young in the fourth overtime to give Alabama a 24-22 victory, which also preserved Alabama’s College Football Playoff hopes.
