As Carson Wentz deals with another injury and is out for a period of time, former Alabama and Oklahoma QB Jalen Hurts is getting a look at the starting role at QB for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Joe Giglio of NJ.com even wrote that Hurts is locked in already at No. 2 for the Eagles, as Wentz is day-to-day with a minor soft tissue injury and didn’t practice on Sunday.

Brad Crawford of 247Sports compiled a series of updates about Hurts and his outlook for the season.

Eagles offensive assistant Rich Scangarello said this week Hurts has done a great job learning the nuances of the NFL game.

“He’s a sponge,” Scangarello said, as transcribed by Delaware online. “It’s important to him. I think that’s one of the reasons he was so important to this organization in the draft and why he’s here. But the NFL is a whole different world. Snap count, motions, breaking the huddle, getting in the huddle, visualization, how you accentuate plays in the huddle.

“All those things, they’re so little, but so big in the process of developing as a quarterback. He’s approached it the right way and really done a nice job.”

That caused several Eagles and NFL fans to wonder if it is, in fact, time for Hurts to step in longer term.
