JJ McCarthy wanted to set the record straight about Michigan’s reaction to drawing Alabama in the College Football Playoff.

There was a video of Michigan players posted on social media where an audible gasp was heard after the reveal. McCarthy on Saturday assured everyone that the reaction was because of the Florida State snub, and not because the team was afraid. The Seminoles were left out of the Playoff at No. 5, finishing with a 13-0 record after championship weekend.

“A lot of the buzz out there was acting like we were scared and all this, but we were just shocked that Florida State didn’t get in, being 13-0,” said McCarthy. “We were just excited for this opportunity.”

The Wolverines play Alabama for the 1st time since the 2020 Citrus Bowl on Monday with a trip to the national championship on the line. The Crimson Tide are 3-2 in the all-time series with Michigan.

The QB battle between McCarthy and Jalen Milroe could be exciting to watch for fans of both teams and neutrals alike. The last meeting ended with a 35-16 Alabama win over the Wolverines. Fans of the Crimson Tide would love for a similar result.

Kickoff from Pasadena is set for 5 p.m. ET on Monday.
