Kalen DeBoer fielded several questions during Wednesday’s SEC weekly head coaches teleconference, including as to whether or not Alabama would ever wear alternate helmets.
It’s something several colleges do that is also highly prevalent in the NFL, but DeBoer struck down the idea of it ever being something that happened at Alabama rather quickly.
“That’s never been mentioned. Not here. There is so much history and tradition with the Crimson helmets,” DeBoer said.
When asked about ever wearing an alternate helmet, Coach DeBoer states: “That’s never been mentioned. Not here. There is so much history and tradition with the Crimson helmets.”

While fans might like to see a little something interesting and different from time to time, it is easy to see what DeBoer’s perspective is here. With the amount of success Alabama has had as college football’s former dynasty team, it almost seems wrong for the team to do anything new outside of its classic All-Crimson helmet with the white “A” lettered on it.
Alabama will get back to the gridiron on Saturday as the Crimson Tide prepare to face the Mercer Bears on Saturday. Alabama comes in hot off of its 42-13 victory over LSU.
The team currently holds a 9-1 record, still coming in as a major underdog due to the obvious difference in levels of competition faced between these two opponents.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. ET on Saturday in Tuscaloosa.
